This article describes this new compressor technology and its air compressor gas engine first use in an ari-certified chiller design.the compressor bearingstraditional centrifugal compressors use gas roller bearings engine and air compressor gas engine hydrodynamic bearings, both of which consume power and require oil and a lubrication system. recently, ceramic roller bearings, which avoid issues related to oil and reduce power consumption, were introduced to the hvac industry. the lubrication of these bearings compressor is provided by the refrigerant itself. (1)magnetic-bearing gas technology is significantly different. a digitally controlled engine magnetic-bearing system, consisting of both permanent magnets and electromagnets, replaces conventional air compressor gas engine and compressor lubricated bearings. the frictionless compressor shaft is the compressor''s only moving component. it rotates on a levitated magnetic gas cushion (figure 1). magnetic bearings--two radial and one axial--hold the shaft in position (figure engine 2). hydrogen generatorsgenerators can also make hydrogen using one of two basic technologies: proton-exchange membranes (pem), and palladium membranes. hydrogen gas generators are most often air and compressor and gas used in gas chromatographs and engine and air in labs for compressor hydrogenation reactions and engine-emission gas analysis. pem systems from parker produce flows from 90 to 1200 cc/mm of 99.99999% pure hydrogen at pressures engine from air 0 to 100 psig. the balston h2-500 hydrogen generator uses deionized water and electricity. it produces compressor hydrogen gas through electrolytic dissociation of water via the pem. the resultant hydrogen stream gas then passes through a palladium engine membrane for purification. because of the membrane''s small pore size, only hydrogen air and its isotopes penetrate it. a membrane thus keeps the hydrogen gas compressor and gas at a purity engine level of two orders of magnitude greater air than desiccant or silica compressor gel-based systems. new compressor technology introduced during the 2003 international air-conditioning, heating, refrigerating exposition (ahr expo), held last january in chicago, may have a significant effect on the future of mid-range chillers and rooftop applications gas in water-cooled, evaporatively cooled, engine and air-cooled chilled-water and direct-expansion (dx) systems. designed and optimized to take full advantage of magnetic-bearing technology, air the compressor was awarded the first ahr expo innovation award in the energy category, as well as canada''s energy efficiency award for its potential to reduce utility-generated greenhouse-gas emissions. the compressor is key to a new water-cooled centrifugal-chiller design, with air-conditioning compressor and refrigeration institute (ari) tests indicating gas and engine integrated part-load values (iplvs) not normally seen with conventional chillers in this tonnage range.
